A reflection and a look forward…
January 8, 2009Hello all and Happy New Year!
It’s now back to the office time (although I never really had chance to stop) and full steam ahead into 2009!
2008 really was a tremendous year for us, and although it took a while, my father Les from Barry James Photography finally took the plunge and moved over to the digital age, leaving our trust Hasselblad 501s along with my 503cws and our Nikons F100s which are now unfortunately gathering dust in our old kit bags – if you know anyone interested in purchasing some film gear please let me know!!
Having the opportunity to work with so many fantastic bride and grooms on their special day really was a pleasure, and I think the albums and the moments captured within says it all. I really do love my job, and being able to share so many people’s days with them is a true pleasure…and I can’t wait to get stuck into the year ahead!!
The move to digital by Les, after I’d moved in 2007, took a little time but by the end of the year the work he and Ste have been pulling out really does look great!
Personally I love the D3 and the performance of it is astounding! Its time to replace a few of my trusty Nikon lenses next year which are looking rather tired after several years of loving abuse, and in all honesty I cannot wait to get stuck into the new year. With lots of new ideas and plans for the coming months I’m really excited at what’s to come – both in weddings, personal photography, portrait photography and also making more time for myself too!!
The one possible downside of both of us being complete digital has been the added workload from the Barry James weddings aswell as my own, but it has been worth it! A few of the winter weddings we had, including several in December, and the one I’m just finishing editing from 29th at Somerford Hall, really wouldn’t have been possible pre-digital! The high iso performance of the D3 is astounding and has really added new possibilities for us – and even the ‘old man’ is loving it!!
For me the move to the D3 from the FujiS5 was a natural progression, and as much as I loved the S5 I’ll never look back, mainly due to that FX sensor.
2009 is now upon us and I cannot wait to share the exciting new prospects coming up – keep your eyes peeled for the special offers that will be on here as the weeks go on too!!
Anyway, it’s now back to the edit of Katie and Ian’s wedding then only two weddings to go and we’re on the ball again. Having an efficient workflow is essential these days, and I’m happy to say with the help of actions from good friends and colleagues, and the quality of the gear we’re using, it’s actually quite good fun…
Before I leave you, here are a few photos from Les and Ste’s December weddings, an update with mine will follow after the weekend
) Enjoy.
